More than 250 young runners, from 2-year-olds to teenagers, raced to the finish today in a 1.2-mile Fun Run that served as the final leg of the 7th annual Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS) Kids Marathon.

The Fun Run was held at Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton. The event also featured music, face painting, kids' crafts, vendors, and refreshments.

Participants were able to register solely for today's run, but most of the finishers were wrapping up the Kids Marathon, which began in April and was open to kindergarteners through 8th graders. The marathoners ran, walked or rolled a total 25 miles on their own in the weeks leading up to today's run. The 1.2 miles that they completed today rounded out the full 26.2-mile distance of a marathon.

The Kids Marathon, hosted by PHCS and Princeton Fitness & Wellness Centers, was initiated in 2009 as a way to help young people incorporate physical activity into their daily lives. Proceeds from the event will benefit PHCS programs to promote wellness and prevent obesity and chronic disease in children.
